Skertchly's study of the manufacture of gun-flints. This rare and almost
unknown source has been invaluable in furnishing additional insight into
the day to day problems of the knapper. Dr. Baird also made many of the
translations from the French. Leone B. Hamilton assisted in the study of
the gunflints and typed that portion of the manuscript.
