First Oil Well in Western Canada National Historic Site of Canada is located between Cameron Creek and Mile 5 of the Akamina Highway east of the townsite of Waterton, Alberta. It consists of a well-head opening and drill stem capped by a monument in the triangular shape of an oil derrick. Archaeological remains of the buildings and machinery associated with the operations of this site are included in the designation.

Drilled in 1902, Western Canada’s first oil well ignited Alberta’s passion for petroleum exploration. Explore the site and nearby traces of the town in the forests of Waterton Lakes National Park. Lieu historique national du Canada du Premier-Puits-de-Pétrole-de-l'Ouest-Canadien est situé entre la crique Cameron et le cinquième mille de la route Akamina, à l'est de la ville de Waterton en Alberta. La désignation comprend une tête de puits et un train de sonde recouverts d'une tour de sondage de forme triangulaire. Des vestiges archéologiques de bâtiments et de machinerie associés à l'exploitation du site font également partie de la désignation.
