Kingston Fortifications National Historic Site is located in and around the harbour area of Kingston, Ontario. Situated at the mouth of the Cataraqui River, and overlooking the confluence of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, the fortifications consist of five separate 19th-century military installations, including Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada (NHSC), Fort Frederick, part of the Point Frederick Buildings NHSC, the Murney Tower NHSC, Shoal Tower NHSC, and Cathcart Martello Tower. An inter-related defense system, the concentration and orientation of the limestone fortifications towards the water convey their essential purpose as a defensible platform for guns. Built between 1832 and 1840, the Kingston fortifications represent the apogee of smooth bore technology. Official recognition refers to the boundaries of each of these installations situated around the Kingston Harbour.

Le lieu historique national des Fortifications-de-Kingston est situé à l’intérieur et aux alentours de la zone portuaire de Kingston, en Ontario. Érigées à l’embouchure de la rivière Cataraqui et surplombant le confluent du lac Ontario et du fleuve Saint-Laurent, les fortifications consistent en un ensemble de cinq installations militaires du XIXe siècle, notamment le lieu historique national (LHNC) du Fort Henry, le Fort Frederick (qui fait partie du LHNC des Édifices de la Pointe Frederick), le LHNC de la Tour Murney, le LHNC de la Tour Shoal et la Tour Martello Cathcart. La concentration et l’orientation vers l’eau de ces installations de calcaire, qui forment un système de défense interdépendant, témoignent de leur fonction essentielle de plateforme de défense pour canons. Les fortifications de Kingston ont été construites entre 1832 et 1840, soit durant l’âge d’or des canons à âme lisse. La reconnaissance officielle du lieu fait référence aux limites de chacun de ces bâtiments situés autour du port de Kingston.
